Bug Busters

AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust have teamed up with Nuffield Health for over two years now, to successfully deliver our Bug Busters lessons. The lesson is aimed at children in years 3,4,5 and 6 and lasts one hour in duration.

The project educates children within the local schools in Bournemouth and Dorset on the importance of common bugs, viruses and illness, and methods that can be used to prevent them. The lesson is split into two sections, a classroom, theory section; where the children are taught by a representative from Nuffield Health. The children learn about spreading germs, and washing their hands effectively to make sure they are stopping the spreading of these. Using Nuffield Health’s UV light, the children can wash their hands and then check to see whether or not they have effectively killed call the germs.

The second half of the lesson is a practical session lead by our Community Coaches. This is the physical part of the lesson, where the children get to play games related to what they have previously learnt in the classroom.

AFC Bournemouth’s Simon Francis is a regular attendee of the project. “I’m over the moon to be associated with such an important initiative and pleased to be working with Nuffield Health Hospital to make a difference to the local area.”
